Game Recap

A beautiful day saw the Captain’s from Waterford Kettering visit for the first of two final home games during our last week of JV soccer for the season. The Holly JV team was banged up and started the match with only 1 sub available on the bench, limiting options for play and rest for the other players. Despite this, the boys came out playing hard and did well the first half, splitting possession with the Captain’s throughout. Unfortunately, Kettering was able to sneak in a goal as one of their shots slipped between the hands and legs of our keeper.

In the second half, Holly was resolved to get on the scoreboard as they were not yet out of the game. They played slow to begin the half, and allowed Kettering to get 2 more goals early to really put the pressure on. The Holly JV team dug deep and amped up the intensity the final 10-15 minutes of the game and started pressuring the Captain’s into making mistakes. Holly was first able to capitalize on a hand ball by the Captain’s when junior striker, Mitch Kennedy, was able to score on a free kick from about 15 yards outside the goal. The well-placed shot gave their goalie no opportunity to save it, and had the Broncho’s on the scoreboard.

Holly’s JV team continued to press and had Kettering on their heals. Minutes later, the pressure forced Kettering’s goalie to drop a ball and junior attacking-mid, Kyle Thompson, capitalized by putting the dropped ball in the back of the net. Now very excited, and with Kettering struggling to regain composure, the Holly JV team tried to tie it up in the final minutes, creating several great opportunities that were unfortunately turned away by the Captain’s. The Captain’s held on and kept our Broncho’s of the scoreboard to secure the win.
