Holly entered the last game of the season Tuesday night with a lot on the line. The Bronchos, now 10-9, were looking to win their 5th out of the last 6 games played. A win would not only be the 4th in a row, but it would also guarantee a winning record for the season, and provide some momentum heading into the district tournament.
Traveling to Royal Oak, a non-league opponent, there were a lot of unknowns on each side; and the game started as such. Both teams played well defensively, but sluggish on the offensive end. The score after 1 had Holly trailing 7-6. The Broncho defense, paced by Vaugh Peters, Andrew Simmons and Sammy Fleischer, stepped up in the 2nd quarter and limited the Ravens to only (2) points. Offensively, the Bronchos went inside. Seniors Dylan Hignite and Hunter Jackson had (6) points each in the 1st half and Holly led 18-9 at the break.
Both Royal Oak and Holly pushed the pace of the game in the 2nd half. A few early baskets by junior Ryan Ortiz jump started the Holly offense, and a balanced attack from the remaining Bronchos allowed for (10) players to get into the scoring column. Holly outscored Royal Oak 21-13 in the 3rd, and continued to pull away for a 60-38 victory.
Holly will play Linden in the first round of districts @ Howell High School on Wednesday, March 11th at 7:30 p.m.
